Haiku Week – The Poems of Issa

Mosquito at my ear

does it think

I’m deaf?

 

Issa was a beloved poet. Compared to Robert Burns, he writes poems crickets, flies and other creatures. He was born in 1763 in a small mountain village in central Japan.

Climb Mount Fuji,

O’snail,

but slowly, slowly.

 

What a strange thing!

to be alive

beneath cherry blossoms.
