Dedicated to my doctor

Listen to the gifts of your heart

There is a rhythm to life

Laughter and love heals all

So much to do, so little time

I trapped a moonbeam in a bottle

enjoyed my morning walks in the woods

Everything is fine

Pressed fall foliage in my journal

to test the power of time

What is this new hope I feel?

my heart beats strong again

Life is beautiful!

Live it well my friend.

Good Old Buddies

Thinking about friendships that last a lifetime. Dedicated to my dear friend Enid. We have been friends since second grade. The buddies described here are old army buddies. Happy Veteran’s Day and God bless.

Good Old Buddies

Good old buddies:

one four score and nine

the other entering the ninth

decade of his life

A friendship that has lasted more than most

They can’t count the many toasts

they have shared

for good health

happy birthdays

successful careers

wives they adore

kids so keen

beautiful grandchildren.

They shared

fifty years of good debates

over politics

boxing

and the status quo

now life seems full of woes

one unable to see

the other unable to walk or talk

but their hearts beat in unison

the message is clear

the code understood

only old buddies can hear

hands shake tight

both still willing to fight

in spite of their plight

the good old buddies know

the end of their journeys may be near

when together however there is little to fear.

they bid each other an “hasta luego mi amigo”

for what may be one last…

And I was the lucky one to witness a friendship so dear and divine.

May Day Memory of A Friend

Beautiful K

Memories galore

of the things I adore

rush into my mind

to remind

me

to remind

you

about the things

that really matter in life

like friendship for example

I see my best friend

holding on tightly

to her bright pink ribbon

giggling uncontrollably

when she notices

I am tangled up in a ribbon

of  sky blue

I point to her

and chuckle too

because what she does not

realize is that she also is

wrapped inside a cocoon

We were only eight and a half

free to laugh,

happy to take turns being so silly.

It was a May day to be exact

when we promised

to be friends forever

and to never, ever

forget the happy times we shared.

My friend has suffered much

more than anyone can bear

when we talk

I make sure she knows that I will always care

but her heart is broken

beyond repair.

So now I hold on to her ribbon

hoping she finds solace somehow and somewhere

and learns to laugh again

I see her in my mind

untangled at the Maypole

where we once

danced round and round

as she giggled so care free

I’ve become her memory

she counts on me

to bring her back

to that beautiful May day

when she had not one worry in the world

she smiles and grabs my hand real tight

and looks into my eyes

to tell she is alright

and won’t give up the fight.

Today is May

May Day Postcard
May Day Postcard (Photo credit: paukrus)

I visited a memory today

from many moons ago

This very first day of May

We sang and danced
around the maypole
that must have been
five stories tall
and my dear friend E—
chuckled as I looked up
in awe of swirling, winding ribbons

of crimson, fuchsia, and baby blue
and became a little dizzy as I always do
when I go round and round and round

I can hear the sounds
of flutes and shakers
announcing spring is here

a memory visited me today
this very first day of May
and one thing’s true
I still have you
my friend
to share this glance into yesteryear

Dificil

why does her heart collide

with her own unhappiness?

the signs say slow down please

you have reached

the intersection

of love and friendship.

But she doesn’t know sincere

or trust

only fear of failure

and rejection

no intention

is good enough

she believes that only stuff

like fancy cars and status

and grandiose titles

is the way

to get someone to stay

close enough to really see her soul.

Do you have someone who is DIFICIL?
