Happiness

“True happiness is . . . to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future.”

                                                                                                                                 – Seneca

                                                                                          Happiness:

a four year old child

licking a strawberry

ice cream cone.

Little Debut

Small feet step on cue

first recital, a big hullabaloo.

Grandma so proud;

Her excitement is hard to subdue.

Tickets sold out for the mini venue,

where her first grand daughter,

will make her debut

dancing with the four-year old crew.

Grandpa so proud

he claps real loud

some in the audience

shush him and say, “shoo”

but no one dared to say, “boo”

Today is so special;

a day we will never forget.

Little feet step on cue

on the best day yet.

On the Day to Celebrate Motherhood

On the Day to Celebrate Motherhood

We celebrate mothers

because motherhood is

about sacrifice,

unconditional love,

A mother’s love happens to be the greatest love of all.

No matter who you are

or what your economic status

No matter what creed

or what color or ethnicity

Motherhood is universal.

Mothers are revered,

cherished, adored, treasured

and loved beyond life itself.

I hope that any mother who has lost a child

or whose child may be ill

to keep faith alive in their hearts.

I could think of two specifically

who lost their children this very week to violence.

On the day to celebrate motherhood

I think about my own mother

who is long gone

and about her voice and how it sometimes

infiltrates my thoughts

and still brings me solace

and peace when I most need it.

I think about my son lives too far away for me to hug him.

I praise my daughter who is a great mom.

I thank God for all the mothers

who set the best example for me to follow.

and that I may emulate them with honor.

On the day to celebrate motherhood

we all need to recognize

that mothers are what we have in common.

And we all need to celebrate

their life force

and how powerful a mother can be.

Happy Mother’s Day!!

Deep Sadness

I watched this young boy declare

on live National TV

that he was prepared to go down fighting

he picked up a bat;

thinking he could fight off

a killer with a gun.

Did not catch his name

but I will never forget his sweet face.

This statement saddened me so much.

My guess is that he was maybe ten years old at most.

Tragedy by gunfire once again

entered a habitat of learning,

A charter school,

and robbed youngsters of their childhood once again

and ripped them of their innocence once again.

Deep sadness!

Fifteen shootings and only

19 weeks of school!

2 weeks, 2 shootings, and two brave young men murdered.

Deep sadness!

Rage, Prayers and We continue to just watch.

Evil!

More prayers!

When?

Where?

How many more?

Deep sadness!

Deep Sadness!

  • “Now comes the pain of truth, to whom ’tis pain;

o folly! for to bear all naked truths,

and to envisage circumstance, all calm,

that is the top of sovereignty.”

                       John Keats

A Little Boy Goes

In man’s search for meaning

a little boy goes

hoping that someday he

will find his very own

Soon finding he is not alone.

His dream is for someday

to reach a star

not at all concerned

about how high or far

asking endless questions about

who, what and why?

He mostly wants to know

why we all must die.

In man’s search for meaning

a little boy goes

hoping that someday he

will find his very own

All he longs for is to be free

and that world peace

is our destiny.

OMG Is this Song About Me?

Oh my, this song is about me

my heart exposed completely

like on a MRI

the image clear

showing the tears

lodged inside.

Oh my, this song is about me

the lyrics tell our story

like the precious moments

because you are all I need to get by.

Oh my, this song is about me.

reminding me of that very first love

that seemed endless from the beginning

when you held me like

you would never let me go

and all I needed to know

was my lonely days are over.

Oh my, this song is about me.

bringing it home to me

because it’s so true

I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day

I’ll love you for a thousand years

you always manage to take away my fears.

Oh my, this song is about me.

Before the day I met you, life was so unkind

But you’re the key to my peace of mind.

where it began I could not begin to knowing

But then I know it’s growing strong

I know the best is yet to come.

If you understand others you are very smart

This is a poem I came across and I loved the title.

If you understand others you are smart,

If you understand yourself you are illuminated

If you overcome others you are powerful.

If you overcome yourself you have strength

If you know how to be satisfied you are rich.

If you can act with vigor, you have a will.

If you don’t lose your objectives you can be long-lasting.

If you die without loss, you are eternal.

Wow! I may be half there.

A Found Poem – Closing National Poetry Month

A Found Poem

Flightless wings

know very well

Authenticity

lives in death

The song of May

reminds us

that Mother’s Day

is near

and a Mother’s fear

grows more today

Because

The Promised Land

no longer sows

Bluebells in the sunshine

Beside the old Trail of Hope

Where I used to collect

my dreams one by one

But despite the awful things

That spread on fields of my mind

I am not obedient;

Conformity is not my thing

I Pray.

I pray for kindness.

and want to spread the word.

Life is Good!

Lift your voice and sing!

Tomorrow will be May again:

Flowers scheduled to be in bloom,

let us forget the words of doom.

And for those who predict only gloom,

Just remember,

Tomorrow is another day.

and soon it will be Mother’s Day!

Let us rake the fears away.

As I mentioned in the video I created this Found Poem inspired by some of the titles, words and phrases used in the posts of my fellow bloggers at WordPress.
